1/29/2018 0 Comments Almost 100 Days! Can you believe your baby has been in Kindergarten for almost 100 days? That is reason to celebrate. On Tuesday we will have an all day celebration of the number 100. We would love to have some volunteers help with the various activities. If you can come anytime between 9:30-11:30 or 1:30-2:30, please let me know, The more the merrier! We are getting ready by studying the 100's chart in math. We are looking for patterns, skip counting and growing in our number sense.
Our current focus in WIN (what I need) is writing. I always tell the kids, "good writers are good readers and good readers are good writers." The two skills go hand-in-hand. At this point in the year, we start using the word wall and some simple vowel patterns to move from phonetic spelling to accurate spelling. By the end of the year, students should be able to write a sentence with some sight words, spaces, and punctuation. Keeping a journal at home is a great way to reinforce this skill with creative, story, and personal writing activities. You should start a journal now and keep it going over the summer! Now is the time to start working on Valentines. Your child should write and sign all of his or her Valentines. (That's why you should start now!) There will be tears if you wait until right before the 14th! I will send a class list including your child's book buddies. Thank you for helping your child be independent on this project. The Valentine's Day Party is on the 14th from 10:30-11:30

1/6/2018 0 Comments Happy New Year!Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope everyone had a fun break filled with family time and laughter. It is always a bit tough to get back in the swing of school. Sticking to routines (bed time, homework, reading time, etc) will help your child this week. Hopefully, the only thing that will be melting is the snow! January is an exciting time in Kindergarten. Maybe the students feel energized after the break or maybe they are just developmentally ready, but I see many students really take off this time of year. Let’s capitalize on that!
Please let me know if you will be out this month. We will be doing some testing with reading levels, phonics levels and math. Mid-year is a great time to monitor progress and re-group if necessary. I will share this information with you individually as necessary. Growth Mindset Quote of the Week: “Never give up. Go over, go under, go around, or go through. But never give up.” |
