Kid, you'll move mountains.

Can you believe the end of the second trimester is right around the corner!?! March 1st is the end of the trimester, so grades will be sent home the following week. Please remember that earning a 3 is the end-of-year expectation. I will include an explanation of the district guidelines on scoring student performance, but you can always let me know if you have any questions. In class, we have been working on memorizing sight words. Now we will begin to learn phone numbers, addresses, and student identification numbers. To ensure that we are memorizing accurate information, please complete next week’s “homework” to fill out the above information. Look for that on TUESDAY. Encourage your child to continue working on them at home as well. I believe it is a safety issue for all children to know their phone number and address. Speaking of homework… we have reduced the amount of work that we send home. PLEASE remember that instead of worksheets, students need to be working on Reading Eggs and Math-Seeds. These are fantastic programs. Students who have consistently used the programs make tremendous growth! Thank you for supporting your child at home. If you feel like the level is too low, please let me know and I can reset the placement test. As you know, I encourage students to make mistakes and learn from them every day. Here is a video that was a part of the math workshop training I attended today. It is 13 minutes long, but it is worth it! Wondering why I love mistakes? Think your child shouldn’t count on his or her fingers? Can your brain actually grow? Watch to learn about the power of a growth mindset! Our children learn something every day, so should we!

2/5/2018 0 Comments 100 Days Smarter!Tomorrow is going to be quite the celebration! We will spend the day doing 100 activities (or activities about the number 100, there's only a dozen projects!). One of the activities is counting out 100 snacks, You do not need to send in a snack tomorrow. It is a very busy and stimulating day. Kids will be tired!
Wednesday is the 101st day of school, so we celebrate Dalmatian Day. Every day is a party when you are learning in kindergarten. Kids should wear white, black or polka dots. In math we have been preparing for 100's day by exploring the 100's chart. We are looking for patterns, learning to count on, write numbers beyond 1-20, and understand what numbers mean. This is a great time to practice skip counting at home. We know 2's, 5's and 10's in class! In literacy, we have been working on decoding skills in reading. Remember to do a picture walk before reading, look at the pictures for clues, make the first sound, think about what makes sense, and blend the WHOLE word! As the books they are reading get longer and take the form of true stories, you can begin to work on retell. Have your child recall the characters, setting, beginning, middle/problem, and end/solution! Are you working on Schools on the Move? We are encouraging healthy snacks at school, especially fruits and vegetables. They count towards the 5! The first Wednesday of every month is "Wellness Wednesday." Staff is encouraged to wear workout gear and include activity and movement throughout the day. We definitely get in our 60 minutes during brain breaks and recesses! Be sure to start working little by little on your Valentine's cards. Your child should be doing his or her neatest writing. If you wait until the last minute, there may be a melt down! You can begin sending them to school as soon as they are done. We made Valentine bags today, so the kids can start delivering. Thank you for all of your support! Have a great week.\ |
