12/7/2017 0 Comments Holiday RemindersI am excited to bring back some new techniques from my math training today! We have been working on rewriting some of the questions in the curriculum to encourage deeper thinking. I also have a bag of tricks to show students how to have math discussions where they explain thinking, questions methods, and celebrate mistakes and learning. Growth mindset is a major theme in math this year. To help us all learn a growth mindset, I will start including a quote in each week’s newsletter.
This week and next week we are learning about winter holidays like Hanukkah and Christmas. The students will learn about the symbols that represent the Jewish holiday including the menorah, dreidel (we even get to play!), latkes, Star of David, and chocolate gelt. We will write Christmas wish lists, make elves, and work on some surprises in our study of Christmas. Let me know if your family has any different traditions you’d like the class to include. "There is a difference between not knowing and not knowing... YET!"
