9/19/2014 0 Comments Field Trip and VolunteersTuesday will be our first field trip! We are going to Miller Farms at 9:00 am, so please be on time to school. Make sure you have a healthy breakfast and take care of bathroom needs before coming to school. Field trip volunteers, please send in $8, and remember that siblings need to stay at home so the kinders can have your full attention.
9/14/2014 0 Comments Farm AnimalsLearning in every subject area is in full swing in kindergarten. We have settled into our schedule and are mastering routines. The kids are excited for volunteers to see us in action during our literacy centers, "workstations." Before volunteers can join us in class, you must register online. Please follow the link below and register today. https://www.psdschools.org/partnership-and-volunteer-center/volunteers Our core theme this week is farm animals. In writing, we will continue learning and writing about the student of the day. In math we are beginning numbers. The students are learning poems to learn how to correctly write numbers, always starting at the top! Phonics instruction begins with listening to sounds, counting sounds and learning left to right directionality. School pictures are on Tuesday. Bring your best smile! 9/7/2014 0 Comments AnimalsĀIt's all about animals for the next two weeks in kindergarten. The focus this week is fictional. We will write about Willaby Wallaby, the elephant, sitting on our heads. Students will show the beauty in our names after reading Chrysanthemum, a story of mouse with a special name. To begin phonics instruction, we will work on differentiating sounds, maybe even some silly animal noises! We will even expand our knowledge of shapes to combine shapes to build animals.
On Friday, I sent home a volunteer schedule based on the days and times circled on the volunteer sheets. Let me know if you have a conflict, or feel free to swap/switch with anyone else on the volunteer list. If you volunteered for media, please come from 11:20-11:45 to help with book check out. Literacy volunteers come during our "workstations" from 1:30-2:30. We are also looking for parents who can come in on Wednesdays to help make copies and prepare projects. While we cannot allow parents to bring younger siblings into the class to volunteer, some parents find copy crew a great way to help out with young ones in tow. Please watch for the copy crew sign-up genius email! 9/2/2014 0 Comments PlantsWelcome to full days of Kindergarten! I think we are all ready to really learn the routine of a normal day. I do think that the shorter days helped the young students adjust to kindergarten. They seemed tired at the end of the day. Going home routines should be more regular now. Please let me know if anything has ch This week we are learning about plants. Students will be able to name the parts of a plant, describe their needs, explore different ways we use plants, and find some creative ways we use plants (ask about The Sunflower House), We will continue to compare and contrast shapes in math. Students are learning speaking and listening standards during writing as we get to know our friends through student of the day. After a student presents, the kids draw and write about they learned. If your child is planning on getting hot lunch this year, it is a good idea to try it this week when there are lots of extra helping hands in the cafeteria. This is the last week teachers will be in there to help teach the kids how to go through the line. |
