Kid, you'll move mountains.

12/16/2018 0 Comments Happy Holidays! What fun it has been to prepare for the magic of the season with your kiddos! They have been sharing about winter traditions. What fun ways the kids get to spend the season with their families. Sledding, building snowmen, sipping hot chocolate, and decorating the tree are just a few of the many memories the children have shared. This week is all about maintaining a balance between fun and work. I wish I could bottle the energy the kids have had in the classroom the last few weeks! At home, make sure kids are getting to bed on time. We will not be sending home readers this week to help take something off your plate! However, if you need the consistency of readers, you can do Readingeggs, math seeds, or read a favorite book to your child. Our Winter party is Thursday, December 20th from 10:30-11:30. You are welcome to come to the party but please remember that while siblings are welcome, the activities, crafts and snacks are for the kinders. Some parents have asked about work over the break. I would focus on writing. Our budding authors have been working on publishing their first books. Write thank you notes, stories, letters to Santa, or whatever excites your child. Writing should be fun and motivating! Have a wonderful break and enjoy the magical moments of the season with your sweet children. They have been such a gift to me already this year!

This is a pretty special time to learn about the regions of our planet, including the North Pole. Who lives there and what is it like? 😉 On a side note, please remember that this is a magical time of year. If your child is one of the few who does not believe, please remind him or her to keep the magic alive for our friends! There are so many fun creatures up north, but the North Pole is not a continent and we will learn why. Next week we will learn about winter holidays like Hanukkah and Christmas. The students will learn about the symbols that represent the Jewish holiday including the menorah, dreidel (we will even play this week!), latkes, Star of David, and chocolate gelt. We will write Christmas wish lists, make elves, and work on some surprises in our study of Christmas. Let me know if your family has any different traditions you’d like the class to include. In our new WIN groups, we will dive deeper into number sense and place value. Some students are mastering teens, while others are skip counting to 100 by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, and others are working on place value to 100. Remember WIN stands for “What I Need.” We use this time to meet students where they are learning and mastering skills. Thank you so much for your donations to the Kindergarten Pajama drive. We collected over 170 jammies to be matched with a book from Scholastic for at risk youth. We are so very grateful and touched! |
