Kid, you'll move mountains.

3/28/2016 0 Comments Africa, here we come! This week we are studying Africa. It's such a fun continent with lions, elephants, and giraffes. We get to explore Egypt and the Nile! Don't forget your water as we trek through the Sahara desert. We will read folk stories about Anansi the spider, elephants, and hippos. What fun!
April is the last month we will have parent volunteers in the classroom, so we will be cutting back to one parent each day. The kids are getting ready for first grade and all the responsibilities that come along with moving on up! We are continuing our WIN rotation working on gross motor, fine motor, math, reading, and problem solving strategies. It is fun to see the students challenged in new ways. Conferences: Spring conferences are not mandatory, but are available if you are interested in meeting with me. If you are interested in having a conference scheduled, please email me and we will figure out the best time for both of us to meet. Please know that these conferences are for the purpose of discussing your child's academics or questions you may have for me about your child. These conferences are not for the purpose of discussing class placement for next year. There will be an opportunity for you to give input for your child's placement next year. Information from the office regarding this input will be posted on the school website.

3/7/2016 0 Comments Luckiest Me...Maybe it is St. Patrick's day, maybe it is spring creeping in, maybe it is the promise of spring break around the corner, maybe it is the 21 beautiful, funny, and inspiring faces I get to work with nearly every day, but I am feeling pretty lucky (and happy) these days! I cannot believe we are in the last trimester of the year. Time to really buckle down and make sure that every child's' skills are secure and ready for the adventures of next year.
This week, we are writing and learning about being lucky all under the theme of St. Patrick's Day. St. Patrick's Day is one of my favorites because my Grandma is from Ireland and I went to Notre Dame, home of the Fighting Irish! As you look at the second trimester's benchmarks and the information that went home in Friday folders, start thinking about questions or concerns you have for the summer and first grade. Conferences are scheduled for April 8th; however, I would be happy to schedule a conference prior to that date if you would like to meet sooner. Just email me with some times and dates. If you volunteer, I can meet with you at 11:50, when the class is at lunch. I am also available Monday, Tuesday, and Friday mornings and pretty much every afternoon. For the next six weeks, during our WIN (what I need) time, we will be focused on collaborative communication. Learning to work together and problem solve is one of our standards centered around building 21st Century Skills. The students will still be grouped based on individual needs. Some groups have a more specific focus on reading, math, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, or problem solving, but every group will get to participate in every area. Mostly, we are all going to have some FUN learning! We can't wait. |
