Kid, you'll move mountains.

8/30/2018 0 Comments Fantastic First Week!We are at the end of our first FULL week of kindergarten, and wow, I am impressed. The kids all seem to be adjusting and falling into a groove. They are a fun group! I have noticed that their fine motor skills are great. Have you been letting your child cut, glue, draw, paint, and play with play-doh? If so, keep it up! It is working. For more fine motor ideas, check out the "Link" tab at the top and click on "Therapy Street for Kids." Thank you for sending in a healthy snack and water every day. We are getting used to our 12:30 lunch time! In writing we are starting our "All About Me" presentations. Are you working on the posters that came home on assessment day? If you misplaced it, please let me know. This is a family project that should be done in chunks so that your child is not overwhelmed. Your child should also be doing a good portion of the work. This will help him or her be ready to present on his or her day. Practicing at home a few times is much appreciated! I will film the presentations and post them to SeeSaw so that you can watch! We are done setting up ReadingEggs and Mathseeds. You are welcome to log-on and explore! Remember, this is set at your child's independent level. He or she should be able to do the lessons independently. Volunteers: I am working to set-up the sign-up genius. I will try my best to get it out this weekend, but to give you a heads-up. I typically have volunteers during Workstations (our literacy center) M-TH 10-11:00 or for copy crew any time that works for you on Wednesday mornings. Remember how I talked about making mistakes in Kindergarten? I have been working in my personal and professional life. All year, I will be working with your child to develop a growth mindset. However, they need to hear it and see it from us as well. Here's a video about fixed vs. growth mindset. More to come! Growth Mindset Quote of the Week: "Mistakes are proof you are trying."

8/17/2018 0 Comments Welcome to Kindergarten! For the past few weeks, I have been in my classroom and in meetings preparing to meet your precious child. I am more than ready and excited! We are going to have a wonderful year learning, playing, exploring, and making friends. Many you have questions and worries about the first few days (and eventually weeks and months) of school, so kindergarten’s back to school night is on Monday night from 5:30-6:30. This meeting is informational and boring for kiddos. Please plan and leaving children at home. On Monday morning, there is a whole school open house. This is optional especially since you will be coming to back to school night and kinders have an easier transition on first days. However, if your child would like to come visit the room, drop-off supplies, meet me, and see the room, I’d love to have you! Open house is from 8:00-9:00 on Monday morning. You should have received information about your child’s staggered start days. If you are not sure what those days are, please email me! Does your child go by another name? For example, my name is Elizabeth, but I go by Liz. If that is the case, please let me know ASAP so I can change name tags. Sometimes, the transition to kindergarten can seem scary. If you are nervous, your child will sense that and be nervous as well. Please email with me with any concerns. It’ll be easier on all of us, if we address any problems early. Keep that in mind all year. 😉 Mark your calendar: Monday, August 20
