Kid, you'll move mountains.

4/27/2015 0 Comments Getting Close to the end...At this point in the year, I never tell the kids, but the countdown to the end of Kindergarten is on! It makes me excited, nervous, and sad! Check the upcoming dates on this site for lots of fun events coming up. We will be working very hard for the next month to ensure that your child is ready for first grade. Be sure to stay focused on evening routines like readers, sight words, and bedtime. It will help your child stay attentive and engaged at school during these last 5 exciting and fun weeks.
After learning about the Rainforest for two weeks, we will focus on taking care of the Earth this week. We are all very excited to go see The Monkey Kingdom on Thursday. If you have not already done so, please send in your permission slip and money today! In math, we are working to complete the required end-of-year kindergarten assessment. As we do so, we will be spiraling back to all the topics we have learned this year. We will also be working on time, measurement and a little bit of money. We have slim pickings in our treasure box, if you are doing some spring cleaning and find some small toys or treasures please send them in! Think old McDonald toys, stickers, pencils, notepads, animals, etc. We are especially in need of "boy" stuff! Many of you have asked about ReadingEggs and Raz-Kids. You will have access to those programs through the summer. Be sure to continue working on them now to get a good routine to continue through the summer distractions.

4/14/2015 0 Comments Getting Wild!Last week, we explored the wild animals and landmarks of Africa including giraffes, the Nile, and monkeys. This week, we are heading deep into the Amazon Rainforest as we explore South America. Watch out for deadly snakes, interesting insects, and jaguars!
In math, we have mastered 3 dimensional shapes. Continue look for and naming shapes at home by the correct math names (cube, pyramid, prism). Can your child describe the shape to you? What is the difference between a square and a cube? How are a cylinder and sphere similar? How are a cone and pyramid different? Be sure to start working on this week's homework a little bit each night. It is not due for two weeks because there are multiple steps involved. Get started early! This is volunteer appreciation week. Thank you so much to each of you who has helped in our classroom by coming in during workstations, helped plan parties, or completed at home projects. Your dedication is not only incredibly helpful for me, but it is also important for your students to see you invested in his/her school and education. Stop by the office and pick up a flower (our small token of appreciation). Thank you for helping us grow! |
